Educational Goals
I plan to complete the Didactic Program in Dietetics in Summer or Fall of 2013. Apply for a 2014 admission into a Dietetic Internship, with my highest reaching goal of obtaining admission into the Virginia Commonwealth University program. I would then complete the 11 month program, sit for and pass the Registered Dietitian exam. I also plan to complete a Personal Trainer Certification through the American Council on Exercise by December 2012.
In the future I hope to complete a Master's program in either Dietetics, Public Health, Positive/Motivational Psychology or Business Administration. I would like to attain a PhD in an area that I could really make a difference in. However, I will only continue seeking further education as long as it fits into my life and that it is purposeful.
Career Goals
Short Term Goals: After attaining my Registered Dietitian credential I plan to work part-time while my child(ren) are young. I hope to continue working with the WIC program and the workplace wellness program. I would also like to pick up some consulting/contractual work with a long-term care facility and/or private healthcare providers. I may also try to work PRN with the local hospital. I like the idea of having multiple PRN options due the flexibility needed when having a small child(ren) at home.
Long Term Goals: My long term goals have changed significantly after having my son and I imagine they will continue to evolve as my life changes. At this time I plan to have a small private practice, continuation of consultant work for healthcare providers, potentially branching out into media work (newspaper and/or magazine articles) and focusing on specializing on an area that I feel I could help out the most (at this time I'm really interested in Motivational Psychology as it relates to Nutrition and Pediatric/Maternal Nutrition). Ultimately, my goal is to be working somewhere where I feel like I have the abilility to work closely with someone and really help guide them to their goals.
